Create A Secret Garden With Cannock Gates!
11th February 2009…As every keen gardener knows, spring should be the busiest time of the year in your garden as it begins to wake up after winter.
An extension of your home, it’s essential that you give your garden a spring clean so you can make the most of it during the summer months. Making a few simple changes will ensure your garden is the perfect setting for barbeques and summer entertaining, once the sun begins to shine.
Clearing out your garden shed, tidying up your decking, putting up new trellis and repainting your garden furniture are all great ways to improve your garden in an instant! And, to create that ‘secret garden’ look, invest in a new garden gate from Cannock Gates.
Here are Cannock Gates’ top tips to hang a gate:
When you receive your gate:
- Gates must be stored in a safe, clean, dry place and must be laid flat if not hung straight away.
- Gates must be treated with an oil based wood preservative as soon as possible and before any fittings are attached as untreated timber is prone to swell and discolour. A minimum of three coats should be applied.
Posts:
- Wall mounted posts must be secured in at least 3 places with rawl bolts and the base of the post should be 2’’ from the ground.
- The hole for in-ground posts must be at least 24’’ deep for 6’ posts and 36’’ deep for 9’ posts. Place gravel at the base of the hole for drainage and then fill with concrete.
- Leave a ¼’’ gap between the post and the gate when fitting a single gate.
How to hang your gate:
- Hinge bolts must be put through the centre of the hanging stile not the shoulder joint and remember to leave the gap between post and gate stile.
- Use heavy reversible or hook and band hinges and all hinges should hang off the back of the posts
