Council plans new fencing after news story

Council plans new fencing after news story

24/03/2009

An anonymous pensioner has thanked the East Herts Herald for putting pressure on the council to deal with security issues on an allotment, it has emerged.

The publication revealed that the man's shed at the Dark Lane allotments had been set alight and a spokesman from Broxbourne borough council told the newspaper that the local authority is looking into installing mesh fencing to be attached to the allotment gates.

"I've been going on to them (the council) for seven years," the man informed the East Herts Herald.

He thanked the news provider for a front page article that he claimed got the council "jumping up and down".

Meanwhile, a different allotment holder spoke to the Herald, saying that the gates had been causing issues before this recent development.

Earlier this month, an Arbroath Herald reader claimed gates at Elliot needed changing and the National Rail responded, agreeing that work was necessary.
