Shropshire is set to see stiles in the county replaced by gates as part of a project that will also see paths in the region improved, it has emerged.
The Parish Access Project is being run by Shropshire county council and more than 2,000km will have been worked on by the time the initiative is completed out of a network of over 5,500km, the Shropshire Star Newspaper Online.
Eric Plant, chairman of Acton Burnell parish council, told the news provider that there had been some concerns raised over the project but it went ahead nevertheless.
Richard Knight, access maintenance team leader for Shropshire county council, informed the publication that the idea behind the scheme was to restore paths and replace stiles with gates wherever possible.
"We will start with overgrowing and replacing stiles with gates to encourage access for all," he added.
Earlier this month, a spokesperson for the Somerset council told This is Somerset that it had replaced a stile with gates because of legislation issues.
