'Check gates' for wear and tear

'Check gates' for wear and tear

26/03/2009

Checking gates for deterioration over the winter has been advised as part of a garden security spring clean.

Saga suggested checking sheds as well as gates and make any repairs if they are needed after recent Saga Home Insurance research showed that January, March, June and July are the most popular months for thieves to attack gardens.

The average cost of replacing items taken from the garden stands at £378, according to the company.

In comparison, average damage costs from floods amount to £391, while storm damage costs come to £387, Saga revealed.

The body also advised checking on securing devices, such as padlocks and fastenings, replacing if needs must.

Saga added: "Take photos of valuable items to keep in case they are stolen."

Earlier this month, it emerged that rabbits were being attacked in people's backyards in Malvern, one of which, named Ace, was found murdered in its own hutch.
