Carlisle is set to see some more alley gates as the council looks to build safer communities.
Earlier this month, the Leadership Group of Carlisle and Eden CDRP approved two-thirds of the funding for the alley gates scheme.
Then Cumbria county council's Carlisle Local Area Committee agreed to provide the final third amounting to £18,665 at a meeting on March 24th.
"I am sure that these new alley gates will be warmly welcomed by local people, as they will help prevent the types of anti-social behaviour that have plagued them," commented county councillor Cyril Weber, chair of the local area committee for Carlisle.
The council said that it is a fact gates lower crime and anti-social behaviour associated with alleyways, as well as help reduce cases of burglary and fly tipping.
Carlisle council said earlier this month that the renaissance of the city is gathering pace as key projects are going ahead to improve prosperity.
