An alley gates initiative in the Sudellside area of Darwen, Lancashire will improve security for the people and children will be able to play safely, it has been claimed.
Councillor Roy Davies told the Blackburn Citizen that he thought it was great that the Sudellside area is one of the first areas in the borough to have alley gates installed.
He said that "people will be able to hang their washing out at the back and hopefully a sense of community will grow".
"I want people to grasp it with both hands," he added.
Earlier this year, Blackburn with Darwen borough council invited residents to put forward areas to be considered for alley gates implementation.
The Blackburn with Darwen community gating initiative was established after councillors recommended addressing concerns about various forms of crime, including burglary and fly tipping.
People were able to contact their local councillor if they thought the scheme would be suitable for their area.
