Liverpool's Princes Park, which is home to the landmark Sunburst Gates, has been upgraded from a Grade 2 Historic Park to a Grade II by English Heritage.
The gates at the park were recently restored and the area has been upgraded for a number of reasons, including the fact that it is the first major park created by designer Joseph Paxton and the original aesthetic of the park remains intact.
"It really is a historical gem in the city and it's fitting that the park has been upgraded in Liverpool's Year of the Environment," said Liverpool city council's executive member for the environment councillor Berni Turner.
The councillor commented that she was delighted about the upgrading of the park and added that she wanted to thank everyone involved in the upgrading of the area, which may include those who helped restore the gates.
Earlier this month, the council announced a clean-up of the park was to take place, including the replacement and re-painting of the railings around the Sunburst Gates.
