School wins award for security

School wins award for security

24/02/2009

Children from the Kings' Forest Primary School in Kingswood are to receive an award for the security and attractiveness of the institution, which may be down to the establishment's implementation of secure gates.

The Association of Chief Police Officers' Secured by Design award was given to the school earlier this month and one of the pupils, a seven-year-old named Kardelen, said that she feels safe as the gates are closed and she can play with her friends.

South Gloucestershire Police District Commander Chief Superintendent Andy Francis revealed that it is the first school to have been given the award in the Avon and Somerset constabulary area.

"This award signals a great achievement for both the school and the architects involved who have worked so hard to provide a welcoming and safe environment for our children to learn," said Sheila Cook, executive member for children and young people.

Earlier this month, the Birmingham Mail reported that an anti-burglary scheme in the city was shortlisted for the Local Government Chronicle Sustainable Communities Awards after erecting more than 40 gates.
