Rochdale could see more alley gates added to its current tally of 52 in the coming months, according to one news provider.
The gates and railings already in place in the town's central ward have been successful in keeping unwanted visitors out of back streets and alleyways, the Rochdale Observer reports.
Councillor Farooq Ahmed tells the newspaper that the gates have slashed crime, anti-social behaviour, youth nuisance and fly-tipping.
"In my view, alley-gating is one of the best schemes that the council has brought in," he adds.
Funding is now available so more gates could be installed to help the council save money in the long run, Mr Ahmed continues.
Earlier this month, Carlisle residents told the News & Star that alley gates have prevented vandalism.
The community paid for the three gates after the council said it would stop providing them.
