A campaign to save a set of railway gates in Frinton is to continue despite planning permission to replace them receiving the go-ahead, a news report has claimed.
The Clacton Gazette reported that Network Rail's plan to replace the gates with a barrier system operated via CCTV from Colchester has received backing from the Office of Rail Regulation.
Following a recommendation for approval by the regulator, the final decision to proceed with the proposal lies with the Department of Transport.
David Foster, Frinton Gates Preservation Society chairman, told the newspaper that the group is to continue to fight the decision to replace the gates.
"The Level Crossing Order will be signed using delegated powers and all they can do is look at the recommendation, but we believe that the recommendation is flawed. The battle is not over yet they could still change their view," he said.
The Norfolk Eastern Daily Press reported that the railway station in Norwich is to receive a new set of ticket gates following planning approval from the local council.
