Moveable gate called for

Moveable gate called for

22/01/2009

A 'moveable' gate has been called for by residents in a village to replace an iron gate, according to a news report.

The Boston Standard reported that every year on New Year's eve the parish council in Kirton closes a footpath between King Street and Station Road by chaining an iron gate across its entrance.

However, this year one member of the community in Kirton demonstrated their frustration with the decision by cutting the padlock and pushing the gate aside.

Complaints have come in as it is thought it has caused unnecessary inconvenience for many people and the emergency services.

David Smith, leader of the parish council and owner of the gate, told the newspaper: "It's obvious someone has come along and seen the gate and gone back and got some bolt cutters. It was a nice neat little snip."

He added that he has suggested to the parish council it should install a moveable barrier in the future.

The Northants Evening Telegraph reported that a shopping centre in Kettering is to receive a new set of gates.
