Residents at a block of flats in Rutherglen have called for security doors and gates to be installed after a fire was started by arsonists.
icLanarkshire.co.uk reported that a fire began in a wheelie bin which someone then put underneath an electricity box.
According to residents, the fire, which was started deliberately, could have been prevented if more security such as gates and doors were in place to restrict access.
South Lanarkshire Council's spokesperson told the news provider it is working with its partners in the area to curb anti-social behaviour through increased community safety officer patrols and investigations.
"There are three owner - occupiers in the block and we need their consent and contribution to the cost of installing a controlled entry system. Should owners be in agreement this work will be programmed," they stated.
A resident at the flats said they felt neglected by the local authorities.
Meanwhile, the Scarborough Evening News reported that a number of gates and fences have been damaged in the town in recent weeks by vandals.
