A resident in Barrow has called for more action to be taken to stop local residents fly-tipping in his community.
The North-West Evening Mail reported that one man is continuing a campaign against fly-tippers who are littering the street with rubbish and unwanted items.
Peter Gooding, 63, requested gates be installed in Church Street's back street in 2007 which the authorities duly did.
However, the problem has continued and he believes more security either in the form of gates or something else need to be introduced.
Speaking to the newspaper, Mr Gooding said: "We've got to get a message through to the people that the back streets are not a dumping ground.
"My wife uses a disability buggy but we can't get it out the back gate because there's that much rubbish. It's terrible."
Children no longer play out in the area due to the amount of rubbish dumped there, he added.
Meanwhile, the Cumberland News reported that a councilor in Carlisle has called for alley gates to be fitted in certain areas of the town to cut back crime.
