New gates at Waterloo station should make travelling safer and easier for passengers, claims a news story.
The Basingstoke Gazette reported that more than 170 ticket gates have been added to the station which should mean the station is more aesthetically pleasing as well as preventing people from travelling without tickets.
Waterloo's new gates were introduced last week as part of a project in conjunction with South West Trains.
Speaking to the Basingstoke Gazette, Richard O'Brien, Network Rail Wessex Route director, said: "The installation of the ticket gates will help improve the overall passenger experience, in particular safety and movement around the station. The project team at Waterloo has done an outstanding job in delivering this complex piece of infrastructure."
He added that the new gates are the first stage of a "significant investment" being made at the station.
Meanwhile, the York Press reported that the application to introduce a controversial set of gates at the station in the town has recently been submitted.
