Residents in Bolton have called for a bigger gate to be installed in an alleyway near their homes, a news report has claimed.
According to the Bolton News, homeowners in Bentley Court have campaigned for security fencing for the past seven years.
The alley gate was requested as part of a security initiative to stop vandals from damaging ground floor flats and fly tippers from dumping waste.
However, the gap left at the side of the gate by the workmen means anyone wanting to get into the garden can walk round the side of it.
Speaking to the newspaper, Richard Lister, area manager of landlord Contour Housing, said residents had complained about the area being used as a dumping ground for illegal tippers.
"Residents were made aware of its limitations before we put it in, but we are obviously disappointed that the gate is not acting as the deterrent that residents hoped for," he stated.
The Scarborough Evening News announced it has launched a civic pride campaign after a number of gates and fences were vandalised.
