A number of new gates could be installed at York's train station, it has been reported.
Plans to install automatic ticket gates have been submitted by National Express East Coast which - if approved - would be fitted at four locations across the station.
Consisting of standard-length gates measuring 60cm in width, there will also be a number of wider gates at 90cm long to help those with prams and luggage trollies make their way through, the York Press reports.
In proposals forwarded to York city council, it was reported that the standard gate is "designed to let up to 33 people with a valid ticket pass through the gate in one minute".
However, National Express East Coast reported that with barcode validation of Advance Purchase passes, an even higher number of people may be able to pass through the gate.
Overall, 20 gates are planned to be fitted.
Earlier this month, it was reported that police in South Yorkshire are considering installing alley gates in a street in Denaby to help lower levels of crime and antisocial behaviour.
