A thief in Reading has stolen a wreath made by a six-year-old girl, it has emerged.
According to the Reading Chronicle, the girl's mother, who asked not to be named, said that she believed they may have been targeted because they do not have garden gates.
"None of the other wreaths in the street were taken. The other houses have got gates and our car wasn't on the drive, so perhaps ours was an easy one to pick," she suggested.
She urged the thief to be mindful of who is affected by such behaviour, which she described as "meaningless".
The mother noticed that the wreath had gone missing on Wednesday of last week, although she could not bring herself to tell her daughter that it had been stolen.
Elsewhere, the Times Series has reported that local detective chief inspector Julie Bidewell has urged residents in the area to leave a light on when leaving the house this Christmas as this is one of the simplest ways to deter burglars from targeting a property.
