Police hunt for arsonist after school fire

Police hunt for arsonist after school fire

18/12/2008

A fire at the school gates has led to a new police hunt for the culprit.

The blaze was started at the rear of the St John's Green Primary School in Colchester. As a result of the fire, the estate gates were damage, with paint having been burned off.

Speaking to the Gazette News, police spokesperson Debbie Chisholm said: "This was mindless damage that could have endangered life."

She added that anyone with any information about the incident, or who committed the crime, should contact the police.

This is not the first incident where school gates have been affected by acts of vandalism.

Last month, one school in Rochdale had to shut its school gates following damage caused by a break-in.

Moorhouse Primary School in Milnrow had to keep its estate gates firmly locked shut after thieves broke in and stole copper piping, leading to floods in the buildings.
