Getting ahead with home insurance

17/12/2008

Searching for the correct home insurance policy can be a tricky process if you are unsure what to look for, the Peterborough Evening Telegraph has pointed out.

As such, it encouraged residents to get to grips with some of the common insurance terms to ensure they get the level of protection they need.

It noted that buildings cover will usually protect all physical attributes of a property and extends to garden fences, gates and sheds, as well as swimming pools.

Meanwhile, contents insurance will ensure that all removable possessions contained within the home are protected in the event of theft, loss or damage.

The paper also advises that people should be aware of the limits of a policy.

"Common exclusions can be things like theft if you've sub-let your house, or damage if your house has been left unattended for a long period of time," it notes.

Home insurance may also cover the cost of theft of garden gates or fencing, a fate which the Haslemere Herald reported as having struck one local family twice in a year.
