A set of security gates are to be installed at a library in Burnley to curb a recent spate of vandalistic attacks.
The Burnley Citizen reports that a group of youths who gather outside the Grimshaw street library are thought to be responsible for damage to stonework at the site, in addition to daubing the building with graffiti.
Speaking to the paper, planning agent Paul Henderson said that the new gates are necessary to discourage youths from loitering in the recessed entrance of the library.
"This area is a common gathering point for youths who are vandalising the stonework at a low level and at a high level by climbing the columns," he said.
The gates would be pinned back using bolts so that access is not restricted during the day.
Late last month, Inverclyde Now reported that the gates of a local cemetery would be closed during the evening after vandals damaged headstones at the site.
