A homeowner in Hertfordshire is preparing to lodge an appeal against his local council after he was refused permission to erect gates at the front of his property, it has been reported.
The Watford Observer has revealed that a man from Loudwater Lane, Chorleywood, had been prevented by Three Rivers district council from fitting large steel gates outside his home as they believed that the gates did not match the area's rural surroundings.
Now, the homeowner is to make an appeal to the secretary of state in a bid to dispute the decision of planning officers at the local authority, with a decision on whether the gates will be given the green light due to be heard in 2009.
In related news, it was recently revealed that planning permission has been given to an estate of 11 homes in Surrey to erect a set of gates.
Planning inspector David Saul gave the go-ahead after it was deemed that the gates would be consistent rather than obtrusive with the local street scene and would help to provide a safe area for children to play.
