An estate of 11 homes is set to receive a new set of wrought iron gates after a planning inspector ruled that the installation of the gates would not result in social divisions.
Regen.net reports that the inspector's view was based on the fact that the wrought iron gates would be relatively lightweight and of limited height.
"In his view, their domestic appearance would be consistent with the local street scene rather than obtrusive," the website noted.
As such, he deemed that the real threat of social division or exclusion would be minimal.
So too, the installation of the new gates would allow local children to play in the street safely, he ruled.
In other recent developments, a village in Wiltshire has erected two sets of roadside wooden field gates next to the main road in an effort to remind drivers that they are entering a rural community.
Local paper the Gazette and Herald reported that research has shown that doing so has helped to reduce speeds in other countryside areas.
