Site security 'a top priority'

Site security 'a top priority'

19/11/2008

Police are warning rural residents that securing outhouses and garden buildings should be a priority after a break-in in Horton, Ilminster.

Avon and Somerset police have appealed for information after a burglar stole £6,540 worth of equipment from commercial premises in the area.

Saws, a generator, drills, chainsaws, a commercial vacuum cleaner and a pressure washer were stolen from the site overnight between Wednesday November 12th and Thursday November 13th.

In a public statement, the police advised: "Securing rural garden buildings and outhouses is a priority. Make sure all doors and windows are secured with visible locks. It may also be beneficial to join the rural watch scheme."

People may wish to invest in new garden gates and fences to act as a further deterrent, while commercial site managers may consider wrought iron gates for added security.

Elsewhere, Safe Gardening has advised that gates, fences and security lighting can reduce the risk of burglary when used in conjunction with securely locked sheds or garages.
