Local residents in Filton, Bristol have benefited from locking alley gates which will prevent access to members of the public.
According to the Avon and Somerset Constabulary, locals living on Mackie Road have pooled together to fund the installation of the new wrought iron side gates, which block access to a lane behind the street.
Filton Neighbourhood Police Community Support Officer Sheryl Drewitt successfully applied for additional funding from Safer South Gloucestershire after two local residents aired their concerns about the security of their property.
"These two residents really care about their neighbours and go out of their way to help people feel safe and secure in their homes. I look forward to working with them in the future," she said.
Meanwhile, one of the local residents said that the amount of graffiti and the number of break-ins has reduced since the wrought iron gates were installed.
Safer South Gloucestershire was set up to improve community safety in the area, as well as providing support services to deal with drug addiction and antisocial behaviour.
