A new footpath and cycleway, which may have included new gates, running through the grounds of Gloucestershire Airport was due to have been opened earlier this month.
It runs for a quarter of a mile and both walkers and cyclists can enjoy the stretch that runs between Bamfurlong and Churchdown.
Gloucestershire county council, the Gloucestershire Airport Board, Gloucestershire Environment Trust and Sustrans all worked together on the project, with the local authority contributing in the region of £30,000 to the cost through the Local Transport Plan.
"People are increasingly keen to get about in a healthier and more environmentally friendly way and routes like this help make walking and cycling a more attractive choice for their everyday journeys," commented Sustrans regional director Adrian Roper.
The council announced earlier this month that a Forest of Dean bridge will re-open next month with repairs to handrails having been made after vandals damaged them.
