Gates bid presented to Gloucestershire council

Gates bid presented to Gloucestershire council

23/04/2009

An official bid to Gloucestershire county council has been launched to open the White Hart Lane gates in Stow-on-the-Wold, it has emerged.

Resident Nigel Drury has submitted the application after landlords at the White Hart pub shut the gates at the beginning of the year, upsetting residents who had used the lane to gain access to the Square, reported Andy Woolfoot, writing for the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard.

"Negotiations are still underway between Arkells Brewery and the county council to find an amicable solution to this problem. The county council has made Mr Drury aware of this," the local authority explained.

It said that it considered the formal application process for a public right of way to be a "last resprt" as the process is long and complex.

The council added that it hopes the issue can be resolved through negotiation.

Gloucestershire county council announced earlier this month that a £1.6 million fire station in Dursley is now open, which may mean that some new gates have been installed at the site.
