Hull may get gates with extra funding

Hull may get gates with extra funding

27/04/2009

Hull city council has been given an extra £11,250,000 for this financial year to carry out repairs on housing stock in the area, which may mean some gates are set for improvements.

It will form part of the city council's overall Decent Homes project, which is the tenth largest in the UK as the council owns more than 27,500 homes.

"Not only can we accelerate work to meet our Decent Homes Standard, the money will also help protect local jobs, most of which will be in the building industry," commented Hull city council housing portfolio holder councillor Allen Healand.

The new funding will be used on completing 1,300 homes to the Decent Homes standard, which may mean some new gates are on their way to Hull.

According to Communities and Local Government, a decent home should have relatively modern facilities, be warm and be weatherproof.

It says that decent homes are important to any prosperous, sustainable community.
