Petition sent to local council for alley gates

Petition sent to local council for alley gates

28/04/2009

A petition has been signed for alley gates to be installed in the Mill Hill area of Blackburn - and the woman spearheading the campaign has spoken out about it, it has emerged.

Jacqueline Livesey, of Brindle Street, told the Blackburn Citizen that the council has been given the petition and it has around 80 to 100 names on it.

She claimed that the campaign for the alley gates has been ongoing since 2006 and has had the backing of Jack Straw.

Mill Lane has been ignored while other areas have seen gates put in place, Ms Livesey commented.

"We think the gates will lead to greater security and also promote a greater sense of neighbourliness," she told the publication.

She revealed that "kids" had been "hanging around the back street, drinking, littering and causing graffiti".

Earlier this month, Blackburn with Darwen borough council revealed that children in Watery Lane and East Rural areas of Darwen will be able to enjoy new or refurbished play facilities.

The funding was provided from a share of a £2.5 million investment in play over the area and the new areas may have seen some fresh gates installed.
