Railings 'make an impression'

Railings 'make an impression'

30/04/2009

Railings, hedges and fences are more than just boundaries - they are also responsible for the first impression that visitors have before they enter a property, research has found.

Ronseal has surveyed 1,000 people from around the UK, with 48 per cent of people saying that a poorly maintained railing, fence or hedge around a property gave them an immediately bad impression of it.

One-third said boundaries in poor repair made them think the owners were indolent, while 18 per cent claimed they thought it made the property and the surrounding area seem worn and run down.

"Fencing serves an obvious purpose; providing privacy from your neighbours and marking your boundaries, but it's one of the first things that can be overlooked in a garden and is often neglected," stated Charlie Dimmock, who is working with Ronseal on the introduction of its new Spray or Brush Fencelife product.

The product gives five-year colour and protection to sheds and fences, according to Ronseal.
