Gates installed to keep motorcyclists out

20/05/2009

Some gates have been installed in Wellingborough to keep motorcyclists from riding along Waterworks Lane on the Redwell estate, it has emerged.

Northants Evening Telegraph reported that motorcycle nuisance has caused problems in Wellingborough for many years and Redwell ward councillor Ken Harrington noted that gates had been put in at each end of Waterworks Lane.

He told the news provider that he thought it was "a good project", while residents also revealed their satisfaction with the gates.

Mark Reeves, a resident from Grafton Close, one of the streets that backs onto Waterworks Lane, said to the publication: "I would say motorcycle nuisance had been a problem here for three or four years. In the interest of the safety of residents, having the gates is a good thing."

Earlier this month, York resident Derek Ward told local newspaper the Press of his own work to get alley gates installed in the Groves area of the city, which were eventually introduced.
