Stoke gets alley gates

Stoke gets alley gates

20/05/2009

An alley gates scheme has been carried out in Stoke with the Sanctuary Group managing the initiative.

The project was undertaken in partnership with RENEW North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

A total of 15 gates were installed designed to help prevent crime and reduce burglaries.

The gates were installed in passages and alleys over Stoke and support was given from the local police as well as residents.

"We feel that the project has benefited the area greatly both in terms of aesthetics and security, complementing other refurbishment measures we have carried out," said Jim Wright, regeneration officer for Sanctuary.

Residents have been given keys to the gates that are adjoined to their homes.

These keys can only be cut by a master locksmith and with the permission of the council.

Sanctuary was recently given a four-year contract with the Thurrock Supporting People team.

It will be providing teenage parent accommodation services in the borough, possibly with gates involved too.
