Online system designed to log railing problems

Online system designed to log railing problems

21/05/2009

Blackburn with Darwen Council is to develop an online system where people can log and monitor damage to railings and other property, possibly gates.

The council has received around £500,000 of funding from the Department for Transport (DfT) and the money will go towards the creation of the database.

It was only one of 14 local councils to be given the funding and people will also be able to report problems such as potholes or a street light that has gone out.

"This scheme, developed by the council's partners, Capita Symonds, is designed to allow local people to have more involvement in how their highways are managed and maintained," said Adam Scott, strategic director of regeneration and environment at the local authority.

He noted that the DfT received 69 applications from 111 authorities, so it was "fantastic" to be one of the successful candidates.

Earlier this month, the council revealed that funding had been supplied for the restoration of a historic building located at 25 Bolton Road in Darwen.
