Conservative MP Jonathan Djanogly has claimed around £5,000 for the installation of security gates in his Huntingdon home, it has been revealed.
The wooden gates cost £4,936 for installation and maintenance, according to the Daily Telegraph, and can be opened automatically by an electronic touchpad in a vehicle.
They were installed due to security fears after the MP helped constituents threatened by animal rights activists over links to animal-testing company Huntingdon Life Sciences, the newspaper reported.
He told the publication: "I want to stress that I completely understand the public's concerns about MPs' expenses and my party's determination to respond to that concern."
Mr Djanogly, who also claimed £12,951 for gardening at his second home that did not have a mortgage, will be repaying £25,000 to the fees office, the Daily Telegraph added.
According to the news provider, Conservative MP Julie Kirkbride also claimed £1,000 to fund computer equipment bought by her brother.
