Ice cream man causes 'of-fence' to gates

Ice cream man causes 'of-fence' to gates

22/06/2009

An ice cream man in Oswestry has been told that he is offending memorial gates by selling close to them, it has been reported.

The gates, located on Church Street, feature the names of the dead of the two world wars, and council licensing officials spoke to vendor Josh Lentinck after complaints were received, the Border Counties Advertizer revealed.

A spokesperson for Shropshire Council told the newspaper that it had received complaints from local people who thought that it was unsuitable for Mr Lentinck to sell food outside the gates.

"As a result of these complaints, Mr Lentinck has been reminded that there are other areas in which he is entitled to trade under his licence," the spokesperson added.

He has now moved his pitch to The Cross, which is around 200 yards away from the park gates to which he was causing offence, the publication noted.

In other local news, Shropshire Council's environmental maintenance teams are looking for information on a flurry of fly-tipping incidences in the county, which could lead to new gates being put up to prevent the activity.
