Wandsworth Council's Community Safety Division (CSD) is to install gates in private homes and businesses across the area.
It is in a bid to prevent crime and antisocial behaviour, with railings, lighting and other security measures set to be implemented to protect properties across the borough.
Installations also seek to protect alleyways from antisocial behaviour.
The CSD team has already completed 29 projects over the 2008/09 period and there are now 19 projects in the development stage.
"This scheme is an extremely effective burglary deterrent and is helping more and more residents feel safe and secure in their homes," commented James Cousins, executive member for regeneration and community safety at the council.
According to the local authority, government data demonstrates that Wandsworth is the safest borough in inner London.
Wandsworth Council has recently launched plans to create a new playground in Tooting, which could mean that some new gates will go up around the play area.
