Railings given lick of paint at Blackpool station

28/06/2009

Railings at Blackpool North train station subway have been painted as part of a project to improve the tunnel, it has emerged.

Prince's Trust volunteers, who were responsible for the railings work, also painted Blackpool Tower and roller coasters around the site to convey the town's Pleasure Beach as part of a council-run initiative.

Greg Plummer, Prince's Trust team leader, commented: "The young people decided to redesign the subway and the surrounding area as it would enable them to give something back to the town and also help the ongoing efforts to impress visitors.

He said he was very pleased with what the young people had done within three weeks, adding that there had been some stressful moments but all involved enjoyed the project.

In recent Blackpool news, the town's lighting and traffic signal infrastructure is set to be replaced and renewed over the next five years as part of a Private Finance Initiative contract.
