Pupils design memorial gates

Pupils design memorial gates

16/07/2009

Schoolchildren from Hagbourne School near Didcot have designed some gates to mark the contribution of chairman of East Hagbourne Parish Council Monica Lawson to the community, it has been reported.

Mrs Lawson passed away on Boxing Day of last year, having also been a school governor and also contributed to Britain in Bloom as well as the community shop, according to a Newsquest publication.

"The children have worked hard on their designs and we appointed a local artist to combine some of their ideas into the final version. It looks spectacular," headteacher Richard Jones told the newspaper.

He added that the gates design features an image of the earth surrounded by children, designed to reflect the school's "treasured ties" with other educational institutions across the globe.

It recently emerged that Roman Way First School in Redditch won a competition run by Cannock Gates, receiving a state-of-the-art entrance worth up to £2,000.
