Leicestershire police have worked with the council and the Safer Leicester Partnership to provide funding for alley gates in the Belgrave area.
The alleyway is situated at the rear of flats in Garfield Street and the police force said that it has been a problem for antisocial behaviour, including activities such as underage drinking and drug taking.
Fatema Burani, antisocial behaviour investigator for the Leicester Anti Social Behaviour Unit, reported that young people had been urinating in the alley way and leaving litter there.
"We are delighted that the gates have now been fitted and hope they make a real difference to the lives of people living here," Ms Burani commented.
Ralph Burrows, who lives in one of the flats, said that the gates appear to be "making a big difference".
Last month, it emerged that new alley gates have been installed at Orchard Grove in Crumlin, according to Antrim Today.
