A housing estate in Scunthorpe is set to get new security gates as part of a £15,000 scheme to protect the area from crime.
The Earls Walk estate, which houses mainly elderly residents, will get a series of gates and fencing in a bid to deter troublemakers, reported the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
Alleyways will be blocked off and rubbish bins will be protected by the gates, following North Lincolnshire Homes ruling out a 'ring of steel' plan to surround the estate.
Steve Evans, head of housing management at the organisation, told the newspaper: "The new fences and gates will help to deter nuisance activity by preventing non-residents having access across the estate."
Keys to the new gates will be given to all residents and to the emergency services, for access to the area.
It follows the announcement of a similar scheme in Stoke-on-Trent, where estate gates were used on the end of alleyways to prevent crime, the Sentinel reported.
