New wrought iron railings have been erected around Keighley's war memorial, after it was cleaned up by the town council.
Around £6,500 has been spent cleaning the monument and repairing the stonework, which had been damaged by residents, and Keighley Town Council has spent an additional £12,000 on the railings to prevent further problems, reported the Keighley New.
Miggy Bailey, clerk for the local authority, said: "The memorial has now been fenced off with attractive wrought iron railings as agreed with the conservation officer for Bradford Council and the gates locked, preventing access to the memorial."
Details about how people can access to the memorial will be released soon and Mr Bailey told the newspaper that there is a Garden of Remembrance in the Town Hall Square which people can visit to pay their respects.
Putting up railings in Bolton has not been quite so easy, with the local council having to move them twice, after the first change-around meant a pathway was being used as a cut-through for motorbikes, the Bolton News reported.
