Chichester High School for Boys and Chichester High School are to see safety improvements in the coming weeks, with pedestrian railings to be installed.
The developments will form part of the West Sussex County Council Safer Routes to School initiative that is looking to cut down on car travel and increase uptake of other ways of getting to school such as walking or cycling.
New signs will also be introduced to the sites, while the areas will get new speed cushions and road markings.
Road resurfacing work will be undertaken as the council hopes to improve access to buses and prevent unauthorised vehicles from using the routes.
This will help improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
The initiative will take up to three weeks to complete, although weather conditions could affect this timeframe.
In recent news, the council reported that the recently restored North Stoke Suspension Bridge, which may feature new gates, was due to be opened this week.
