Haverhill students design gates for Queen Street

30/07/2009

Students in Haverhill have designed some gates to look like giant leaves, which will be installed at the recently-improved Queen Street.

The gates were designed by pupils from Samuel Ward Arts and Technology College and Castle Manor Business and Enterprise College and will be produced before the installation in Autumn, reports the Haverhill Weekly News.

Student Emily Carr told the newspaper: "I think it will be really cool in 20 or 30 years time when our children or grandchildren see it and we will be able to say 'I helped make that'."

Will Howe, another pupil who took part in the gates design, told the paper that it was a pleasure for him to help out, although he was surprised that the students were asked to be involved in the project.

St Edmundsbury Borough Council has a budget of £10,000 for the gates, according to the publication.

The council has some other positive news recently as two parks in St Edmundsbury won Green Flag Awards.
