London a burglar's paradise?

People in London and Nottingham may want to invest in some new security gates as the two cities were named as the most likely places in the UK to claim for theft or burglary.

Research from moneysupermarket.com revealed that London had five of the top 20 postcode districts most at risk of theft or burglary, while Nottingham had four.

As for specific areas, SW11 in Clapham and N8 in Hornsey were ranked as the most risky postcode districts in London.

Julie Owens, head of home insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said that the research highlighted areas in both the north and south of the UK.

"It is clear that no matter where you live, there is always a risk you could become a victim of theft or burglary and this should not be taken with light consideration," commented Ms Owens.

Recent research from Halifax Home Insurance indicated that 29 per cent of burglaries last year were unforced, via open or unlocked doors and windows.
