Councillors are to consider a £15,000 to £20,000 project to replace two sets of gates at Caverswall Castle, it has been reported.
According to thisisstaffordshire.co.uk, the application for the gates to the Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has been recommended for approval, as has a request for £1 million of internal and external changes to the grade I-listed castle.
Millionaire Robin MacDonald has submitted a planning application to switch the use of the castle from residential purposes to having it as a venue for wedding events and functions, along with proposals for a new car park, the newspaper reported.
"Caverswall Castle is one of the most important historic buildings in the locality. I have restored it at great expense and have made it available for people to enjoy," Mr MacDonald told the publication.
The castle was built by Sir William-de-Caverswall, a knight of Edward I, in 1275 and is also mentioned in the Domesday book.
