The East Devon Pebblebed Heath Conservation Trust is looking to graze some rare breed ponies and cattle at the Dalditch plantation as part of a sustainable management initiative, it has been reported.
It has agreed to install bridleway gates for access for walkers as well as a fence to protect the livestock and the programme is designed to encourage wildlife, according to the Exmouth Herald.
Commons warden Bungy Williams told the newspaper: "Although we will need to reinstate the dilapidated fence we do not intend to stop the community from enjoying the heaths so we are planning to introduce bridleway gates."
These gates will give people free use of the area and see the grazing scheme in action at the same time, Mr Williams added.
The East Devon Pebblebed Heaths Trust is a charity employing full-time wardens to tend to the heaths and implement their Heathland Management Plan, working with Natural England.
