Residents 'shut gates on thieves'

Some possible thieves have been kept out of properties in Leicestershire as elderly residents refused to open their gates, it has emerged.

Police are looking for two men who reportedly asked at least two elderly people in the Highfields and Belgrave areas of Leicester to open their side gates, according to thisisleicestershire.co.uk.

The news provider revealed that the men asked the residents to open the gates so they could deliver a parcel but the victims told the men to leave.

Detective Constable Denise Pritchard told the publication: "It is possible that these men knocked on other residents' doors. If they approached you please get in touch."

She stressed that the residents "did exactly the right thing in asking the suspects to leave".
