Plans are in place to introduce alley gates into an area close to the centre of Southend, in a bid to prevent flytipping and vandalism, it has emerged.
Residents from Glenmore Street and the surrounding area have been asking for gates to close off alleyways next to certain roads, according to the Essex Echo.
St Luke's Conservative councillors Anna Waite and Peter Ashley have managed to persuade the local council to pay for the new gates, the newspaper reported.
Talking about the gates, Mr Ashley told the publication: "Their installation should help with security, flytipping and antisocial behaviour, which have for so long created problems for the local residents."
"I am sure it will make a real difference for the residents," he added.
In other local news, the Thriving Centre Place Family Centre in Prospect Close in Southend was recently opened, according to the council, where new gates could have been installed.
