Some Grade II listed wrought iron gates have been made more aesthetically pleasing after shrubs around them were cut back, it has been reported.
The 18th century gates at Gough Park in Enfield have been given the new lease of life and now the local council is planning to replant some of the gardens, leaving the snowdrop bulbs, the Enfield Independent has revealed.
According to the publication, the gates are the only lasting remnant of the Gough Park estate, which Richard Gough, whose books on local topography are to be found in the Bodleian Library at Oxford University, used to occupy.
Local historian Geoff Nash told the newspaper: "The house would have been a very imposing property at the entrance of Forty Hall.
"The metalwork is a classic example of metalwork of the period."
In other local news, the London Borough of Enfield Council recently announced that more than £300 million is to be invested into the borough's infrastructure over the next three years, some of which could be spent on gates.
