Stolen gates plaques replaced ahead of schedule

Stolen gates plaques replaced ahead of schedule

23/09/2009

Bronze plaques stolen from a set of memorial gates in Neath, Wales, have been replaced thanks to the efforts of the local authority.

The plaques, which bore the names of some of the ex-servicemen killed during the Second World War, were taken from Gnoll Memorial Gates during the summer, News Wales reports.

Neath Port Talbot Council originally planned to replace the plaques in time for Armistice Day on November 11th but thanks to local firm Cyrus-RW Taylor, they have been recast and replaced ahead of schedule.

Speaking of the gate theft, council leader Ali Thomas told the paper: "This was an appalling act of vandalism.

"The plaques honoured the memories of those men who lost their lives for the better of future generations."

It follows reports in the Worthing Herald that thieves in Goring stole a pair of wrought iron gates worth up to £500 from a householder recently.ADNFCR-1968-ID-19377501-ADNFCR
