There have been calls to install safety railings on a stretch of road in Gloucestershire after a pensioner was seriously hurt in a collision.
The 91-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries to her pelvis, leg and chest in the crash last week on Stroud Road, Tuffley and is still undergoing hospital treatment, This Is Gloucestershire reports.
Although a zebra crossing and mobile speed patrols are present on the road, some local people have called for more safety measures to be installed.
John Paisley, deputy head of nearby St Peter's school, said the introduction of railings in the area would help to prevent accidents.
"More railings would help," he told the paper.
"They (the county council) have given us as much as they can at the moment."
It was recently reported in the Blackpool Gazette that a group of primary school children had a lucky escape after metal railings outside their school saved them from being hit by a 4x4.
